Dr Khethelo Xulu is appointed as a lecturer in the Discipline of Physiology. He is a registered Medical Biological Scientist candidate in Human Genetics and Biological Science with the Health Profession Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the South African Council for Natural Scientist Profession (SACNASP), respectively. Khethelo was a visiting scholar at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) for research training in 2016. His research interest is centred on discovering molecular markers (i.e. epigenetics and genetic variations) associated with stress and trauma exposure in pursuit to unravel physiological responses in complex disorders such as in immuno-psychiatric and metabolic diseases. These biomarkers may be essential for prognosis, diagnosis and therapeutic response predictions and monitoring. Prior to joining the School he was a Clinical Scientist Trainee at the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS)/Groote Schuur Hospital (GSH) in Cape Town
